Will SEO Exist In 5 Years?

I recently ran into a great video by the Google Webmaster Help, the question was "Will SEO Exist In 5 Years?"

It really got me thinking, if SEO will really exist in 5years, think back to 5 years ago, there was no social media, social networking was just starting to grow and directories were the leading SEO strategies. Now 5 years down the track, directores are useless and social media and networking have taken over.

Whats your prediction for the next 5 years, what will SEO be in 5 years time?

yes, it definitely will, as long as search engines are around.

of course, the techniques and marketing will be shifted along the way.. but yes, I am sure it will still exist.

I agree with that saggy2009 . As long as search engines exists, SEO is always there. I know that big names like Yahoo, Google and MSN are maintaining their way of existence, but I also know that there will be new players out there until the end, to compete with the big ones, and SEO will always be at present.

In my opinion - As long as there's internet and search engine in which people use in their day to day lives, then I know for sure that SEO will still exist in the next 5 years or even the next after.. We are walking ahead so all the technology and other things will go ahead as well.. SEO will gonna grow in 5 years time..

Search engine optimization will exist as long as search engines do. Imo search engines will never disapear, I mean unless we have some sort of huge internet meltdown, like many ppl expected to happen on jan/01/00...lol

I agree as long as there is google and yahoo etc. seo will exsist but I would like to think that it is eliminated and that only quality websites make it to the top of our search results

Of course, SEO are part of online technology and as long as the internet is around there will be search engines and there will be optimization for them too. People promote and market their products, SEO will be very beneficial to them, so i guess it will be present forever.

SEO will stay around for a long time how else will they be able to tell that which websites are better established. it'll probably be more spphisticated

I think SEO cannot be dissapeared, so yes it will exist after 5 and more years

As search engines evolve so will SEO. It's not as if companies will stop wanting their sites pushed to the top rankings.
